Common questions about the Parent Homework Helper
Why doesn't this just give my child the answer?
Because doing that wouldn't help anyone. The Parent Homework Helper is designed for you, the parent, not the child. It explains the concept behind the homework question so you can sit with your child and walk through it together. A copy-paste answer disappears from your child's understanding the moment they hand it in. Working through the concept builds something that stays.
What grades and subjects does this cover?
Grade R through Grade 7 — the CAPS Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase. We cover all main subjects: Mathematics, English (Home Language and First Additional), Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Setswana, Natural Sciences & Technology, Social Sciences (History and Geography), Life Skills, and Economic & Management Sciences. If your child's school follows CAPS, we can help with any standard topic in those subjects.
How long does an explanation take?
Usually 5 to 10 seconds from clicking "Help me understand". The AI reads your question, identifies the concept being tested, and structures the explanation in four sections: what the question is asking, how to walk your child through it, common stumbling blocks where children get stuck, and a practice example to try together.
What if the AI gets something wrong?
AI explanations can occasionally be inaccurate, especially on edge-case Grade 6-7 content with multiple valid approaches. Always sense-check what the helper says. If something looks off, trust your judgement and your child's teacher over what the AI tells you. We've designed the helper to be a starting point for understanding, not a final authority. Does this work for high school homework?
Not currently. The Parent Homework Helper is calibrated for Grade R-7 CAPS curriculum. High school content (Grades 8-12) has more depth and specificity than the current tool handles well. We're considering a high-school version for the future, but for now it's primary-school focused. For Grade 12 specifically, you might find our APS Calculator and Funded Learning Path tools more relevant.
Does Toolie store the homework questions we submit?
No. Each question is processed by our AI and immediately forgotten. We don't keep logs of what users ask. The homework you paste in isn't used to train AI models, sold to anyone, or stored anywhere on our side. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
